Installation of the CO2 crate and chiller test

The following operations have been performed this morning on the CO2 lasers:

1) replacement of the devices to power and remote control the 8 CO2 flip mirrors (4 for each bench) with a unique device. The corresponding process on VPM is regularly running.

This device is also capable to provide the RF (for this, a provisional set up has been put in place) and TTL signals to both CO2 lasers.

2) plugging the CO2 chillers from UPS to IPS to measure the effects on the environmental probes.

The two activities have been performed in parallel:

-7.41 UTC: CO2 lasers have been switched off (at the same time)

-7.53 UTC: CO2 chillers have been turned off (at the same time)

-08.09 UTC: WI chiller has been turned on plugged to the IPS

-08.13 UTC: NI chiller has been turned on plugged to the IPS

-08.28 UTC: both chillers have been turned off and reconnected to the UPS

At 09.41 UTC and 9.52 UTC both chillers and lasers have been switched  on.

The first activity has to be completed.

The data acquired during the IPS chiller test are being analyzed.

As a follow up on those installations, on VPM:

  • The obsolete SbTCSNI and SbTCSW servers have been removed
  • The TTL_co2 server has been moved from the "HWS” to the “TCS room” group

SbTCSNI and SbTCSW were also removed and TTL_co2  added on the FbsMain config in order to start data collection from the new server (prefix TCS_CO2)

Just an overview of the new device installed:

  • The CO2 flip mirrors remote control works as before, more information about the function are in the entry related (#34467), just like the one installed in DET for HWS (#43631). They can be controlled through the interface available in VPM as indicate in the other comment (#44131).
  • The TTL signal for both CO2 lasers enable is produced with electronic manufactured by EGO, so the generator used before has been removed.
It can be controlled simply using the button on the front panel:

Button light on = laser enabled
Button light off = laser disabled

  • The same device host the active splitter feeding the two signals for the laser RF driver to remove one of the two square wave generators (see entry #34450 for more details about reasons).
Yesterday, there was not enough time to complete this installation, so for the moment there are still present both generators. We will need to plan a dedicated shift for it.

The current setup is shown in annex.

At 14 UTC also the NI CO2 laser has been turned off in order to complete the installation of the crate used to control both CO2 lasers with a single RF driver.

Unfortunately we didn't succeded and each laser still needs one RF driver.

The origin of this issue has to be understood.

For now we leave the crate with 2 RF signal generators connected.

The NI laser has been turned ON at 16.30 UTC.

The WI laser has been turned ON at 17.00 UTC.

Both CO2 DASes are shining the CPs.

IMPORTANT NOTE: When the over temperature protection is activeted it prevents the turning ON of the laser.

It needs to go in TCS room and reset the over temperature.
