IT recovery report after power loss
Recovery work to restore IT services began at 7:14 AM on Saturday (Salconi, Cortese, Kraja, with DiBiase working in progress) and concluded around 8:00 PM the same day.
The main services were restarted from:
- networking
- storage
- computing
until data flow was restored at 5:19 PM.
Damage was detected on two Dell M640 computing units, one Dell M630 unit, and the Dell R730xd backup server (so we are temporarily without backup services).
Minor damage was detected (one unmanaged switch and two rotational disks), but the check-up is still ongoing.
Some minor services may require further inspection and will be checked in the coming days.

Following the unexpected shutdown also a Dell Power Edge M640 server machine was found to be unrecoverable due to hardware problems.

The server machine is xenhost160.virgo.infn.it. Running:

  • olserver403
  • olserver404

The total availability for MBTA is reduced by these two virtual machines.
