Low noise pEOM electronics
During the maintenance, the goal was to swap the pEOM electronics with a different one the design of which was made to reduce its output electronics noise. First, we started by measuring the transfer function of the initial electronics using the SR785 and we found a first order filter : gain = 11.3 pole = 15kHz which is consistent with the logbook entry#66494. Then, we adapted the new electronics so to have the same TF and keep the potentiometer and half range. Then we measured the output noise to be 45nV/sqrt(Hz)@50kHz and 36nV/sqrt(Hz)@2MHz. This corresponds to a noise reduction@2MHz by a factor 9. The electronics was then swapped and the IMC was relocked with no issue. We observe on the RFC a clear improvement of the noise level where the 500Hz pole disappeared (see attached figure). I'll let the experts quantify the improvement on the interferometer signals.

Figure 1 shows the improvement on the interferometer signal. The clearest improvement is visible on B2 PD2 8MHz, where after taking into account the PD sensing noise the lower limit on the 500Hz noise improvement is a factor 7, consistent with an expected improved from the electronics noise measurement of a factor 9. So in principle we could turn back on the 8MHz sideband, use that signal again for PR longitudinal control. Or at least increase it to improve the SNR of alignment signals based on the 8MHz modulation which are still in loop.

On B4 DC there is also a clear improvement, but much smaller as that noise was not very dominant. There is also a modest (~20%) improvement on the two out-of-loop measurement of laser frequency noise (quadrature of SSFS signal, and B2 6MHz).

The new version has the 15 KHz low pass filter put after U3. U4 was bypassed to have about the same gain as the previous version.

Note that I have added a BNC to add a perturbation to the EOM output. Will be cleaner than inserting a box with a junction capacitor.
