Alignment during the YAG absorption measurements

I had a look at a couple of recents YAG Absorption measurements, done with the automation (Figure 1 = 19 Mar, Figure 2 = 21 Mar):

  • when the intended unlock occurs, all SUS nodes remain in the aligned state (idx = 10, idx  = 9 is when SUS_PR writes the aligned position in the configuration file), so the automation is not asking any old setpoint to the Mar local controls;
  • there is a little glitch on the OpLevs, due to the disengagement of the lock, hence the automatic alignment one, and the control going back to local controls; in addition, the sudden diseppearance of the YAG may have some effect;
  • obviously, the trend due to the AA is not followed anymore, but the current orientation is kept, up to 0.1 urad precision in the worst cases.

One could be confused by the behaviour of MIR optical levers during the unlock. There is a step, but very likely it is due to some Yag light disturbing the PSD. This is a well known problem, for which a Yag filter as been inserted to protect the PSD. Its efficiency is limited and a residual disturbance is not surprising.

Another guess could be a change of relative orientation between MAR and MIR because a torque due to radiation pressure is removed. I evaluate 40 nrad per mm of beam off-centering, not enough to explain the step and not enough to determine a relevant misalignment.

Indeed, I did some research on the past measurements, also those performed by hand. These apparent mis-alignments of the CITF optics have always been there (see figures). However, it is only since March 15th that there is an impact on the HWS-DET measurement. My guess is that the HWS-DET probe beam has slowly moved in time and some re-alignment may be necessary.
