Print this reportB1 beam size measurementFor the sake of better mode matching the SQZ beam to the ITF, today I characterized the mode size of the B1 beam after the SDB1 Faraday isolator. With a beam profiler I measured the radius of the beam reflected off the SDB1 FI, at different propagation distances on the external SQZ table. Results are shown in the attached plot, where the propagation distance is measured from the position of the last PZT-actuated steering mirror, i.e. 10 cm from the southern edge of the SQZ table. The beam waist is located at a distance of 1.6+/-0.1 m from the steering mirror, i.e. rather close to SDB1. Waist radius is 0.95+/-0.04 mm.
The reason why the waist is so different from the nominal one (i.e. 1.3 mm located at MMT-M2) is still unclear, at least to me.
